Last few outings I notice my bilge automatically kicking on after a few hours being the water. First thing I checked was the prop shaft seal... sure enough, a steady flow of water trickling out. I did not look any further into it, assumed that I had a adjustable packing seal, called my dealer and he confirmed some early 2011's had the adjustable seals.

I went to check it 2 days ago to see if my wrenches will fit the packing nuts and.... wait for it.... I have a dripless prop shaft seal. I thought these were maintanence free and were really good, rarely leaking??? So now my dealer mechanic is out on injury for a couple weeks so I can't talk to him. How hard is it to replace that front seal? Should I try it on my own or hand it to my dealer? Its a 2011, is this covered under any warranty?

thanks

I had the same issue with mine. I just loosened it off then pushed on further and tightened it back up. So far so good. But up until I did that I was taking on several inches of water each outing.

I converted mine last year, do you have any pictures of where your water feed hose is connected, I kind of winged it since the only one I had previously seen was on an LS3 Vandall, no leaks yet but I only have 40 hours on since the changeover

scmart... so you have the dripless water seal as well? I did not look at mine very well, once I saw the water feed line and no packing nuts I knew it was dripless. I do not know what you tightened on yours. Did you just pry out the seal and then re-seat it?

walter... Feed hose is approx 3 inches back from the front of the seal where the prop shaft meets the front seal, on the starboard side of the housing.

I meant where on the engine it hooks up to? And how much flow you get out of it on a fake a lake at idle?

Oh sorry Walter. I did not look at where the water comes from, at idle is a slow steady flow, more than dripping.

Yes I have 2012 A20 and I think the dripless seal comes standard. If you look at the pics on Walter's thread, I loosened off the red rubber seal held on by hose clamps, pushed the dripless seal on further down the shaft and retightened the hose clamps back up. This is what my Axis dealer reccommended and it was quick to do. Mine was leaking where the shaft and seal sit.
